Help With Sensitive Skin Issues

There are external factors like pollution, weather and diet that can cause the skin to feel tight, itchy or inflamed. Let’s see how we can help with sensitive skin issues.

1. Keep your skin clean

If you are going to bed with make-up or serums on from the morning, you are causing more issues. Always make sure you clean them off before you go to bed.

This will help your skin breathe in the night as well as ensure dirt isn’t on your face especially for too long. With dirt lingering in your pores you are likely to get spots as well as irritation.

2. Lukewarm water

When cleansing especially your face do not use really hot water. Lukewarm temperature works perfectly well at cleansing. Plus it means that the natural oils and sebum in your skin aren’t being removed. This sebum helps keep our skin protected from drying out.

3. Drink more water

Drinking water is such a good beauty source it isn’t utilised as much as it should be. Considering our bodies are mainly made out of water by drinking water you are helping it function from the inside out.

Good levels of hydration will show in your skin as well as your overall health.

4. Do a patch test

A patch test is an absolute must when trialling new products. You should test it by applying a very small amount behind your ear or to your wrist. Wait for at least 24 hours to see if your skin has reacted to the products. You will know if it has reacted as it will feel itchy and be slightly red.

5. Use natural products

A lot of the time people with sensitive skin are using too harsh chemicals on their skin. This will very likely cause your skin to flare up and become painful. This is often the case with butt acne too, you are using the wrong products and your skin is reacting badly.

There are a lot of natural brands and products that contain natural, organic ingredients that will soothe and nourish your skin.

6. Keep products to a minimum

It is easy to overwhelm sensitive skin with too many products.

Using less can be the best option. Find products which are 2 in 1’s or only use products you actually need for your skin.

7. No harsh exfoliation

Try and be a bit kinder to your skin. Use cotton pads instead of wash clothes and make sure you only use them once and dispose of them.

Once you have bathed or showered put a towelling dressing gown on and let it dry you. By rubbing your skin dry you could be irritating it further.

8. Cleanse regularly

Once you get home from work or outside it is a good idea to cleanse your face. If you are someone who lives in a city where you are exposed to a lot of pollution this is especially important for you.

9. Wear natural materials

You could find that manmade materials in clothing are what causes you issues. There are so many comfortable clothing options which are suitable for sensitive skin concerns.

Stick to cotton, denim, wool and silk where possible. Polyester for example is manmade and will not allow the same respiration for your skin, and is more likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin.

10. Always wear SPF

It is no secret that UVA and UVB rays are one of the biggest irritants for our skin. Ensure that any part of your body which isn’t covered in clothes has SPF sunscreen protection on.
