It is more important to enjoy a healthy adult relationship than an unhealthy one. If the relationship is unhealthy you are more likely going to be better off single, or with someone else. There are ways you can improve a romantic relationship and make things better if that is what you both want.

As we age it is often harder to be the single one out of the group. With lots of friends in relationships, you can often feel like the odd one out. Nights out and dinners can be a bit intimidating when you’re the only single friend. I’m sure your friends wouldn’t want you to feel that way but it can be hard sometimes not to.

Relationships all have their ups and downs, not everything is perfect. Despite appearances as an outsider looking into someone else’s relationship you never really know what happens behind closed doors.

We all have different ideas about intimacy and different sexual desires. Sexual pleasures differ from adult to adult, the enjoyment of sex toys but that doesn’t appeal to everyone. This is something that would be a good idea to discuss if you had a sexual relationship.

The types of jobs that people do or hobbies they have could dissuade you from starting a relationship. If you were put off dating a cop you would want to know what to expect and KCSS Online has a full brief of what to expect from a cop’s lifestyle.

Everyone has their own red flags and tolerances but there are a number of ways to maintain a healthy relationship. Sometimes it can take a while to work out whether you love someone or it’s just a crush that has passed. Plus love takes time, you might need to improve your relationship to make it work.

We all have different needs and values which can also change as we go through life too. Which is often why relationships end. When people’s needs within the relationship grow or change and their partner no longer aligns with them.

Enjoy A Healthy Adult Relationship

Here are what I consider the 3 key components of being able to enjoy a healthy adult relationship. If you see marriage as something to work towards then these 3 points will put your partner on the path of planning to propose sooner rather than later.

1 ) Communication within a relationship

This for me is the key ingredient to ensure any healthy relationship you have with anyone. Whether it be a romantic relationship or a professional relationship, being able to communicate is such an important starting point.

There are going to need to be open and honest conversations. You need to be able to share your thoughts and feelings with your partner. When in a romantic relationship there will be so many conversations about life and future plans which you will need to be able to discuss.

If you shy away from communicating or tend to just agree with someone to keep the peace this will end up with you being unhappy. Being unhappy in any relationship can be unhealthy for you and for your partner, who due to the lack of honest communication is unaware of how you are feeling.

Communication works both ways, you need to be able to speak and listen. As does your partner.

2 ) Teamwork in a relationship

Being in a relationship makes you part of a team. If you want your team to win you need to put in the effort and act as part of the team. This is a mutually beneficial tactic as it will bring both sides of the relationship together. If one person is putting in more effort than the other it can bring strain and disagreements.

Ultimately you need to both be on the same side to make it a healthy relationship and work long term. This is quite often why women date an older man as the maturity level is appealing.

3) Trust in a relationship

Trust on some level should be number one on this list. As if there isn’t trust, it is hard to build a healthy adult relationship at all.

To be able to have those open and honest conversations you need to trust your partner. Being able to speak to them openly about how you feel without being judged is vital for you to bring your real personality to the relationship.

Trusting them with your heart and your secrets will bring you closer together. Without fear of being shamed or judged, you trust them to know the real you.

Fidelity in an exclusive relationship will be based on trust. Having an intimate relationship with your partner will require trust and reassurance of their faithfulness.

A lot of us have had our hearts broken or been deceived by a partner in some way or another. Sadly, not every relationship works out but everything happens for a reason. Whether that be life lessons or making way for something better.

It could be worth taking time to look out for those red flags in any new relationship. When venturing into a new relationship, trust your own instinct and go by your gut feelings.
