It’s time to check in, get your finances in order, and start planning for the year ahead.

Winter is a great time to start making progress on your goals and putting a stop to all of the stress that you’ve been experiencing. This also includes the financial woes most of us face. Money matters are a part of everyday life and shying away from them is never the answer. More people are opting to shop online which makes spending that bit easier and for some far too easy resulting in overspending.

There are a few simple steps that can help you start feeling more positive about yourself as we head into a new year. It’s now time to make a big difference in your life and reap the rewards of this in the year to come.

Get Your Finances In Order

Make some spending cuts

While shedding isn’t just about trees this season, it can also be beneficial to our finances. It allows us to focus on the things that are important. One of the easiest ways to do this is to take a look at your past year’s spending.

Assessing where you spent your money will allow you to work out where you can trim the excess.

Having multiple takeaways and using the likes of Uber Eats or Deliveroo for small shopping trips works out expensive. It would help if you also considered the amount of money that you spend on food delivery services as this soon amounts up. This is just an example of what you could be doing differently.

Being intentional about your spending can help boost your cash flow and mindset.

Put some savings aside

It’s time to store away some money and stop buying things that you no longer need. Put money in a place that will benefit you in the future, whether that’s growing your savings or putting money in an ISA.

By doing this, you can save money for your future that you could put towards something. That something else could just be your rainy day fund. Even have it as a holiday pot, to fund your next adventure. Something more financially forward like overpaying your mortgage or even saving for your own home.

Assessing your spending and planning to put money aside is a good mindset to have as we go into the new year.

Prioritise your spending

Being better with money and having your finances in order doesn’t mean you can’t spend it.

Using your money towards things that make you happy is good for you. Maintaining a self-care routine is fast becoming the self-help path to fill your soul with positivity and reduce anxiety. Having a periodic massage or a manicure planned within your budget plan can reduce emotional spending.

Having a dedicated self-care budget or spending allowance is the foundation for keeping you happy.

Self-care doesn’t need to be expensive, a simple face mask and candle-lit bubble bath can equally be good for you.

Organise your finances

Handling your money in an organised manner is also good for your mind. Knowing when money is coming in and when bills are going out helps with organising your spending.

This is the same for organising your bills and prioritising your high-interest debts. Having clarity with your money also helps with erratic spending and emotional impulse buying of expensive items.

Money is one of the biggest reasons for anxiety and stress among couples as well as individuals. Having budgets and financial plans in place will give you and your loved one peace of mind.

Hopefully, once you have decluttered your spending and reassessed your budget for the coming year you will enjoy it more.
