And when there are so many things to do and not enough time to do them in, one of the biggest solutions is to manage your time better.

Yes, it’s simple in theory, but it is harder to put it into practice which is where these time management skills advice tips will help.

Time Management Skills Advice

If you learn to organise your day by finding more time, you will benefit.

How can we do this?

Look At Your Attitude To Time Management

You may be good at setting goals, but if you’re not good at managing your time, it’s hardly surprising that you don’t have control over your daily life. Because if you believe you don’t have any control, you won’t!

This is why you need to have a schedule, but you need to take ownership of it. You can easily order planners on numerous websites like Daily Orders to get you started but in order to truly benefit you need to ask yourself what you could accomplish if you manage your time better.

Look At How Your Spending Your Time

Now you’ve got a daily planner, logging everything you’re doing is going to give you insight into any time you’re wasting. Because we need to remember it’s all of the little things that add up. For example, if you think it’s easier to get a takeaway but it takes you 45 minutes to go and get the thing and would take you less time to cook a meal at home, you are going to benefit from this sudden realisation. Spend a week recording your daily activities and how long they actually take. Because there could be tasks you could combine, put in a different order, or actually put off.

Use The 2 Minute Rule

This is an amazing little thing you can do to help manage your time. If something takes less than 2 minutes to complete, do it (if you have the time). Because if you have a massive task you need to complete, such as a project that will take hours, but an email takes less than 2 minutes, make the email the priority.

Prioritise Your Tasks

To-do lists can be overwhelming, but this is where you can start to categorise them so you can prioritise accordingly. You can use the “time management quadrant” to give you some pointers:

  • Quadrant 1 is important or urgent, such as getting to work on time.
  • Quadrant 2 is important, but non-urgent, for example, spending time with your family.
  • Quadrant 3 is not important, but urgent, for example answering your phone.
  • Quadrant 4 is not important and non-urgent, for example, watching TV or checking social media.

When it comes to making more time, there’s a lot out there we can utilise, but the reality is that we have to look at how we are perceiving the tasks we need to complete. Change your perspective and you could change everything!
