Maskne is the term being given to mask acne

The face coverings trap moisture, bacteria, oils, and dirt on our skin. This can clog pores and contribute to acne and skin irritation

As well as the rubbing of the material on our faces can cause pimples and friction spots

4 Top Tips

Wear A Clean Mask

This might seem obvious but a lot of people are re-using disposable masks. This really isn’t the idea behind them being disposable. They should be worn on only the one occasion and then disposed of properly

Covid-19 spreads through droplets which are expelled when a person who is infected coughs or sneezes. This is why it is crucial you are wearing your face mask over both your nose and mouth

With re-usable masks you should be washing them in between wears to ensure they are clean

Wash Your Face

Once you remove your face covering wash your face. If you are washing your face more frequently you should see less of a dirt and bacteria build up, therefore less chance of spots

Don’t Touch Your Face

You tend to find when your skin is irritated you touch it more. This is probably the worst thing you can do as this will spread the bacteria and effectively spread the acne

Avoid Retinols

Using a more gentle form of skincare during this time is advisable. We all have our own skincare routines and if you are someone who uses retinols and stronger cleansing agents, try to use them less while face masks are still mandatory

The use of face masks in public is to ensure we are following the rules set in place for stopping the spread of Covid-19
