Even if you are not always a glass half-full type of person, positive thinking reduces stress so you should try it.
The general attitude you take to life and situations affects your stress levels. More optimistic people tend to live life with a lot less stress than pessimistic people.
Positive Thinking Reduces Stress
Optimism is the key to installing a more positive outlook and ultimately changing how you deal with potentially stressful situations. Optimism goes hand in hand with practising gratitude and is a journey you can enjoy as one. Your ability to stress management in this way is the key to having a happier and less stressful life.
Positive thinking
Just because you use positive thinking, doesn’t mean negative situations aren’t going to happen to you. It just means that you approach unpleasant situations in a more positive and productive way. Thinking of the best case scenario rather than the worst case scenario.
Positive thinking comes through self-talk which is a stream of unspoken thoughts. The thoughts that go around in your own head which is where your rationality comes from. Which in terms dictates your approach to dealing with a potential situation.
If you are someone who has a lot of negative thoughts you are a pessimist. If your thoughts are mainly positive then you are an optimist.
Positive thinkers have healthier lives
The impact of positive thinking must be explored more. But what we do know is that positive thinkers tend to have healthier lives than the more pessimistic amongst us.
A lower rate of depression is one of the more commonly associated benefits. This positive thinking is a general attitude which impacts your life in every way possible. So when a low mental health day arises, positivity helps it to be dealt with better resulting in fewer depressed people.
By being a positive thinker you tend not to suffer from fatigue and the daily physical drain. Your general physical health tends to be better and this in turn affects your mental health too. If you feel better, you are less likely to punish your body through binge eating, excessive drinking or other more impactful consumptions. Ultimately thinking positively and being more optimistic you are going to be healthier.
Turn negative thinking into positive thinking
You can try and identify areas in your life where you can change your thought pattern into a more positive outlook. It is quite a simple process but one you need to get into a routine of committing to.
The main thing you can do is periodically throughout the day check in with yourself and your thoughts. If you feel that there is something that is affecting you and you have a negative stance on it, try and change your way of thinking. See it from a more positive aspect and see how different that makes you feel.
Give yourself permission to smile and be happy. Look for the humour in everyday life and activities that you enjoy doing and by smiling you will naturally feel more positive.
Surround yourself with positivity and positive people who make you feel good. Ditch those bad habits and become a more positive person and a more positive role model to those around you.
Try following a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and let your body’s own endorphins make you feel good from the inside out. If you are able to be active try and walk more each day and take in some fresh air, it all contributes to making you feel good.
Practise positive thinking
If you are currently someone who has a negative outlook changing to positive thinking overnight isn’t going to happen. It will take time and patience to get to a stage where you evaluate situations with more positivity.
Even so with the introduction to positive thinking, you should immediately see benefits when you put the steps in place.
