The keto diet and ketosis are something I have been hearing so much more about recently. Changing your diet isn’t something that comes easy to anyone as it’s a complete change of lifestyle too.

I have been a yo-yo dieter for a lot of my life. Having signed up for Slimming World more recently which lasted for less than 6 months, I do aim to restart it again.

The keto diet was something I had tried on a few occasions and had great results doing ketosis fasting. With the ketosis detox you can activate your metabolic pathway to achieve better results following the keto diet.

The keto diet is designed to put your body in ketosis, which is how weight is lost.

The appeal of this diet was the very quick weight loss initially. It is typically associated with obese people and those who are trying to reverse type 2 diabetes. This is not always the case, as like myself I just wanted to kick-start my weight loss.

Having more energy and being more productive was also an important reason for me to do this type of restrictive diet.

The Keto Diet

It is a popular low-carb weight loss program which helps to burn fat. It is high in fat and protein but with very few carbohydrates.

After following the low carb keto plan, ketosis usually kicks in after 3 or 4 days.

You need to be eating fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day for ketosis to happen. So many foods we eat on a day-to-day basis contain carbohydrates, so this diet plan is one which takes a bit of research and creativity with meal planning.

To ensure you are eating the least amount of carbohydrates possible and only the good carbohydrates to get the maximum results.

The keto plan does have a huge plus side in that being in ketosis can make you feel less hungry, it also helps stop muscle waste.

What is ketosis?

Ketosis is a metabolic state when your body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates to burn for energy, it burns body fat and ketones. Not muscle like some diets, which is also why it is popular.

Burning body fat is what makes ketones. These ketones can be used as your body’s fuel, so your body can still cope without consuming carbohydrates. This is the process known as ketosis which is the desired state.

There are some side effects in the initial week primarily such as headaches and mild stomachaches. The most commonly spoken about one is bad breath.

Drinking lots of water while following the keto diet I found eased all of these symptoms.

You can buy urine ketosis test strips to see whether you are in ketosis.

Recently I have seen Ketones drinks which are supposed to increase your ketone levels and put you into ketosis.  Haven’t tried these but I am very curious. I will let you know if I do.

There are a lot of mixed views on this choice of diet, but for me personally, it was a short fix but I wasn’t able to maintain it.

I did go on to find Slimming World which I talk about over on Synderella Slims
