I woke up like this will be sung from the rooftops after practising these before-bed beauty routine tips.
A good night’s sleep should be on top of all of our lists if we are feeling a bit down in the dumps. Beauty sleep is not encouraged enough in our everyday lives along with self-care.
Sleep can be taken for granted, and plenty of us aren’t having the recommended 8 hours a night.
Time might be a factor in why your bedtime routine is slacking, but I have some tips to help. You are going to thank me for it.
Before Bed Beauty Routine

1) Remove makeup before bed
We have all done it, gone to bed without taking makeup off. For me it’s usually after a night out or if I am feeling really ropey.
But as a rule, I remove my makeup every single night. Removing my makeup includes double cleansing, as I am a daily makeup wearer. I use my silicon facial cleanser too at least twice a week. If you have an important day like a photo shoot or an event to attend using the cleanser the night before is a must.
Sleeping in your makeup not only stops your skin from breathing while you sleep but also leaves dirt on your pillow. The bacteria left on your pillow will lay on your skin and encourage spots.
2) Use a silk pillowcase
If you are using anything other than a silk pillowcase you need to make the switch asap.
There are so many benefits to using a silk pillowcase. Your hair and skin will both thrive from having a more breathable, natural material. It is advisable to only sleep on and in silk but that’s a luxury a lot of us can’t afford so a silk pillowcase feels like the first step into luxuriousness.
3) Have a warm bath
A lot of us chose to shower in the mornings to make sure we start our days nice and fresh. Having a cold shower to help wake up is becoming more popular due to its benefits for our skin. But have you considered that having a bath in the evening means you get into bed clean?
Unless you change your bed sheets every day you are constantly getting into a dirty bed. Sleeping in a dirty bed isn’t great for your skin.
Having a bath in the evening will also help you unwind and relax before bed.
4) Use a night cream
Face creams come in both day cream and night cream for a reason.
Make sure you are indulging in the correct night cream before bed. Night creams have a lot more moisturising properties so you will notice them to typically be thicker and heavier on your skin.
It is always best to make sure you have cleansed your skin of the day’s dirt before applying night creams.
5) Use an eye cream
The same as night creams are different to day creams. Eye creams are also different to face creams.
If you suffer from dark circles under your eyes or even puffy eyes, use an eye cream for your issue.
Putting the eye creams on before bed will give it more time to absorb into your skin without any other factors like makeup or pollution affecting it.
6) Apply a hair mask
As you are having a bath might as well put your hair mask in as well.
It can sometimes be hard to fit a hair mask into your daily routine as it means you typically stay indoors. Going to bed wearing your hair mask could well be the solution you have been looking for.
You will then on average spend at least 8 hours wearing it and conditioning your locks.
7) Give yourself a foot treatment
I often suffer from dry feet and cracked heels and like to treat them.
Most foot treatments work better the longer they are on. Applying the treatments or creams before you go to bed and then wearing a bed sock will encourage a better performance from the treatment. You are going to be laying down and sleeping so not standing on your feet for a while so it’s the best time to do it.
8) Use a hand cream
Your hands too will benefit from you using hand cream before you go to bed.
We use our hands so much throughout the day and our hands can age quite quickly. A healing and hydrating serum or cream to help pump some moisture back into your hand while they rest is a must.
I have my hand cream next to my bed so it’s always the last thing I do before I go to sleep.
9) Drink water
It is a good idea to ensure you go to sleep hydrated.
Often people wake up thirsty, or even in the middle of the night needing drink. Water is the best liquid to consume and have a glass or bottle of water beside your bed. You do not want to have anything with caffeine in it before you go to sleep, as this can make it harder for you to drift off.
Assuming you are not drinking more than a glass before bed this shouldn’t disturb your sleep. But always try and empty your bladder before bed too.
10) Make sure you are in darkness
Block out all of the UVAs from your bedroom, as you shouldn’t wear sunscreen to bed.
We typically sleep at night time, but people who do shift work or work nights don’t. It is vital that you draw the curtains or blinds to make sure no UVAs are coming through.
While we sleep our body repairs itself and we don’t want to further damage our skin with free radicals. If you struggle with sleep and think you could have insomnia try these techniques to help you fall asleep before you look for medical intervention.
There you have it, my 10 before bed beauty routine tips to help make you wake up looking beautiful.
When you already have a nighttime routine you can easily add a few extra beauty essentials to it. These beauty essentials do not need to take a long time simply applying a lotion will only take minutes. The rest is self-care and it’s been a long day so you deserve it.
