With so much going on in the world right now, there could be many reasons you are feeling lethargic
This current pandemic and the restrictions could well be the main cause of your sluggishness. But before the lockdown were you identifying with some of the sluggishness symptoms? Do you feel like you are not getting enough beauty sleep?
Generally, there are a number of positive daily habits we can try and change to help with our low energy. This lack of motivation can be helped and there are ways to stay motivated.
I am going to run through 5 reasons you could be feeling lethargic and maybe you can identify with them
Reasons you could be feeling lethargic
What you eat can make you tired
The food we eat plays a vital part in our body functions.
This is both on a day-to-day basis and over a longer period of time too. Have you been trying out a new diet or food plan recently? This could well have changed your mood due to the lack of nutrients being consumed. Leaving less fuel for your body to burn and use as energy in comparison to your usual consumption.
Skipping meals and just replacing them with liquid caffeine could have a huge impact on how you are feeling. I know I have been guilty of just having a coffee for breakfast rather than something more filling. Then by lunchtime, I am usually so ravenous I eat something convenient and un-nutritious just to fulfil that hunger pain.
Having a balanced diet, especially breakfast meals will start your days better. A good mix of protein and carbohydrates will help you feel more motivated and energetic throughout the day. Little or low carbohydrate meal plans like the keto diet can cause extreme fatigue.
Poor or irregular sleep pattern
Most of us can relate to the need for more or better sleep.
Having a regular sleep pattern will help your body work with you, not against you. We need sleep to survive, our bodies do not function properly without sufficient sleep.
Adults generally need between 6 and 9 hours of sleep a night. Now, this is a large variance of 3 hours as not everyone needs the same due to body size and the general daily activities we do. Also, people who have health conditions which affect sleep will find they need more sleep than the average adult too. People who suffer from restlessness should try using a weighted blanket to help them sleep. These techniques to help you fall asleep better should be something you try before you look for medical intervention.
Aiming to have 8 hours of sleep a night should be the goal. Work towards this and then hopefully you should feel the benefits in your day-to-day life.
Lack of exercise routine
You haven’t actually had enough exercise could well be why you feel lethargic.
Yes, it seems a bit strange to say that you are tired because you haven’t exercised. But the truth is that by doing physical exercise you will have more energy once you are over the initial hit. It’s a good idea to work your body and make it sweat.
Being able to take half an hour of class on your lunch break or a quick run before work, will make you more productive. You don’t even need half an hour to do it. Just enough to get your pulse up and heart pumping, which for some people will be more than others.
I know it does seem very much like a catch-22 situation. You don’t have any energy to exercise but once you have exercised you will be more productive.
Start by trying a 5-minute routine of star jumps or squats and see how you get on.
Emotional problems
With the current financial climate, there are a lot of people with financial worries. These will weigh heavily on your mind and your day-to-day life and even cause anxiety in many situations
Family fallouts or relationship breakups can be a very emotional time for all of us
Having to try and put on a brave face when you are feeling sad and emotional can be draining. This will leave you very unmotivated and feeling lethargic on a day-to-day basis
The stress and worries we take on from other people can affect us in the same way. If you are the friend that everyone else talks to and you feel burdened with all their grief and worries too, this will affect how you feel emotionally
Taking some ‘me time’ and indulging in a bit of self-care can be a bridge to unloading these emotions. Remember to put yourself first
Physical deficiency makes you tired
In the wintertime, a lot more people tend to suffer from what’s known as SAD, seasonal affective disorder. This is where you feel depressed more so in the winter months than at any other time of the year. The darker days tend to leave many of us feeling down and depressed, but it is an actual medical condition which will creep up early to mid-autumn
You are lacking B12, which is essential for blood formation. If you are not getting enough B12 it can negatively affect your energy levels. There are a number of B12 supplements readily available to buy on high streets and online without prescriptions. Taking a supplement to help your physical and mental well-being can only be a positive step in the right direction
These 5 reasons why you are feeling lethargic can be a starting block for you to try and identify the route of your problem
Hopefully, they lead you in the right direction whether that is by adjusting your daily routine or seeking further help
Remember that there are always people there to help if you feel you need more advise
