Adding some positive daily habits into your routine will only improve your day.

We typically spend our weekly routine doing the same things.

Apart from the odd social occasion thrown in for good measure, our days are the same week in and week out. For the majority of people anyway.

Whether that be having a 9-5 job or an overly social weekend. Or being a stay-at-home mum and doing the same school runs and evening family routine.

This is probably why we all look forward to going on vacation so much, as it breaks the cycle. Something new and different to fill our days with.

There are a number of things you can do to make your days more positive and even have a more peaceful life

These positive daily habits will help you train your thoughts from pessimist to optimist. You will also find the positive thinking reduces stress levels and just generally makes you feel happier.

Positive Daily Habits

A habit is something that you do regularly.

To add some positive daily habits into your routine, you need to repeat them daily over a period of time.

1) Keep Hydrated

This is number one on my list as I feel this could benefit everyone. A lot of us do not drink the recommended about of water a day and are dehydrated without realising it.

The climate you live in will dictate how much water you should be drinking, as will your body weight.

In the UK the average person should be drinking between 6-8 glasses of water a day. This is about 1.5 litres.

Keeping hydrated has a positive effect on your mind and your body. It helps with your skin and your digestive cycle too, keeping everything functioning efficiently. It can also help with weight loss if you are looking to drop a couple of pounds.

2) Eat Nutritious Foods

Eating a diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables will help promote good digestive health.

Processed foods are a large part of the majority of our diets. This is due to convenience and how fast-paced our lives are. Grabbing a snack bar or packet of crisps fills a hunger hole while on the go, but this isn’t a long-term positive habit.

Swapping sugary, processed foods with more wholesome and nutritious snacks will be better for both long and short terms.

3) Moving Your Body

This isn’t a case of going to the gym, as that isn’t somewhere I personally enjoy going. But this is about daily exercise around our lifestyles. Being part of an adult team sport could be a good hobby and social activity.

Deciding to walk rather than take the bus. Walking up the stairs rather than using the escalators.

Your dog walks could be a faster pace to increase your heart rate, rather than a leisurely stroll.

As little as half an hour a day of movement which increases your natural heart rate is ideal. It can also help to move your body if you are feeling lethargic.

4) Quiet Time

Having a point in your day when you don’t have distractions around you. No TV or social media, just you with your thoughts reflecting on your day.

This can be used to journal or meditate. Maybe reading a book or magazine to take your mind to somewhere else.

I like to spend 10 minutes every evening writing in my journal. I don’t necessarily use it as a diary, I write whatever I feel I need to, to clear my mind of the day.

Call it a brain dump, something that can be revisited later if needed.

5) Physical Well-being

At least once a day you should check in on your body, and how you feel physically. Consider what you can do to your body to help it feel and look better.

Have a bath or shower, and give your hair a wash to make sure your body is clean. Give your teeth an extra brush to help with your oral hygiene.

Clip or file your nails if they need it.

Use some extra moisturiser on your legs if you have dry skin. Give your feet a rub if they ache from your day.

If you are feeling that you need some supplements to help with something, journal this to remember to include it in your diet.

Make sure you think about how your body is feeling before you go to bed. Whatever it is you need physically that you can do for yourself do it.

We spend so much of our time considering other people, now is the time to think about you.

Make some positive daily habits in your life and your routine.

You will thank me later when you are feeling like you can take on anything.
