For many of us, physical activity is a big part of our daily self-care routines. Being able to balance your physical and mental wellbeing is such an important part of day-to-day life. After all, the health benefits of exercise are vast — ranging from a  reduced risk of chronic disease to decreased stress levels and improved mental health. And though physical fitness is certainly important, practising self-care is so much more than working out to burn calories and shed weight.

It’s about caring for your mental and emotional fitness as well.

Balance your physical and mental wellbeing

In this article, we tell you how to balance your self-care practice for improved physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Women tend to be a lot more open when it comes to discussing their mental health. Not all women are as in tune with their bodies and address issues which might be just a common health issue among women, but hopefully, this advice will help you with balancing your mental and physical wellness.

Read on to learn about some of the lesser-known self-care activities you can practice for a healthier mind, body, and spirit.

Try Reki for stress release and healing

As a type of energy healing technique, Reiki has been practised since the early 20th century to help people reduce stress, alleviate pain and anxiety, and improve their overall quality of life. It’s an excellent self-care activity to incorporate into your wellness routine if you’re suffering from chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, or fatigue, as it’s safe, effective, and noninvasive.

Other energy healing techniques for improved physical, mental, and emotional health include Qigong therapy, sound therapy, and the emotional freedom technique (EFT or EFT tapping).

Find balance through yoga

Yoga is a great way to keep your body and mind in balance. It offers many physical and mental benefits, such as improved flexibility and posture, enhanced strength and muscle tone, reduced stress and improved focus. Additionally, it can help us connect more deeply with our self-awareness and encourages us to be more mindful of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

As we become aware of the way we interact with ourselves and others, it can help to reduce anxiety or depressive symptoms while providing an inviting space for exploring our inner depths.

Increase positive energy at home

Along with balancing the koshas through Warrior Yoga and practising energy healing techniques such as Reiki, keeping a healthy, clean, and decluttered home helps to remove negative energies for improved physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

This means cleaning and decluttering your home on a regular basis to eliminate dust and cobwebs; wiping down the doors, door knobs, and windows; and smudging your home with sage to remove negative energies that may be present.

You can also increase positive energy at home by lining your window sills with selenite. Placing crystals throughout each room, and using Feng Shui principles to rearrange your furniture.

Certain essential oils have also been said to combat negative energy, so you might try incorporating aromatherapy into your self-care routine as well.

Give your body what it needs to perform best

When you do engage in physical activities such as power yoga, aerobics, or strength training, try incorporating meditation into your workouts, exercising with a friend, and fueling your workout with the right foods and drinks. And don’t forget to practice gratitude after each workout to thank your body for all the hard work it put in!

Some other self-care practices that give your body what it needs to perform at its best during workouts include the following:

● Quality sleep

● Sauna therapy

● Ayurvedic acutonics (or sound healing)

● Float therapy

● Acupressure

● Massage

These self-care strategies will give your body the added boost it needs to achieve your fitness goals while also tending to your mental, emotional, and spiritual needs at the same time. Remember, caring for yourself is so much more than breaking a sweat at the gym or hitting your ideal weight!

Find balance

Many of us are guilty of focusing our self-care efforts on just one type of self-care. However, incorporating a variety of self-care activities into each day is vital for good physical, mental, and emotional fitness. Self-care should be done all year round not just for birthdays or Christmas self-care, you are a priority and you need to be consistent.

This means moving our bodies on a regular basis in addition to keeping our homes clean and clutter-free, looking for ways to reduce stress, connecting with our loved ones, and nurturing our spirits. A balanced self-care practice is a key to good health!
