If romance is in the air for you, we hope you’re channelling some of that extra TLC into your lips too. Having smoother more kissable lips can easily be achieved. If you want to feel the full benefits of kissing then make sure your lips are ready for action.
Cracked, sore, and dry lips won’t do any other day for that matter. But what can you do when you’re faced with extreme temperatures and dry heating systems?
In both summer and winter having sore lips is really common. Even when it comes to hand holding you might want to make sure you avoid dry hands and take care of them as well.
We don’t think about it often, but the skin on our lips is different from the rest of our bodies. It’s thin with no oil glands or sweat glands. This only means one thing—our lips don’t have any kind of hydration mechanism! We have to do it for them. And while a lip balm is a great tool to always keep on your person, there are many other ways to keep your lips pucker.
Smoother More Kissable Lips
Take your make-out and kissing skills to the next level with these tips on how to make your lips look and feel irresistibly kissable.
Use Organic And Natural Lip Products
Petroleum jelly and silicones are some of the most common ingredients in over-the-counter lip balms. They typically include artificial fragrances, colourants, and preservatives that further aggravate dry lips instead of healing them.
Whenever you have the option, go for organic lip balms instead, as they contain natural ingredients like beeswax, nut butter, and Vitamin E to moisturise and nourish your lips. Natural components and organic ingredients are soothing and might help to cure cracked lips more quickly than other alternatives.
Remove Your Lip Make Up Before Bed
Whether you’re wearing lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, lip tint, or all of the above, make sure to remove them before going to bed. Lip cosmetics are filled with artificial dyes and fragrances that, if left on overnight, will have adverse effects on your lips. Just imagine waking up with lips as dry as a desert!
Much like the skin everywhere else on your body, your lips need to breathe and renew overnight. This can’t happen when you leave long-wear lipstick on. As part of your nighttime routine, clean your lips with micellar water. For added care and protection, apply some organic ghee or lip balm to your lovely lips before sleeping.
Avoid These Pesky Lip Habits
If you tend to have chapped lips, we understand the struggle. It’s hard to not pick at the flakes, but resist the urge every time you’re about to reach for one. You wouldn’t pick at a pimple or a scar, so don’t do the same to your lips.
Another bad habit to avoid is licking your lips excessively. While giving your lips a quick lick before putting on makeup might make them appear more glossy for a split second, it will actually dry up your lips even more. And there’s science behind this! The enzymes in your saliva will irritate your chapped lips. This is why lip balms are a necessity!
These seem like simple and trivial things, but, trust us, you’ll be better off once you banish these pesky lip habits.
Create A Lip Scrub To Use
Care for a little DIY action? Take giving all that love and care to your lips a step further with your very own lip scrub.
Grab some oats, milk, honey, and ghee. All of these ingredients can help with moisturising and nurture your lips by eliminating dead skin cells. Powder your oats in the mixer and add half a teaspoon of each of the rest of the ingredients.
You’ll want to create a thick paste out of this. Once everything is incorporated, use it as a lip scrub. At least once a week, gently massage this on your lips. For more supple lips, don’t forget to complete your lip care routine with a moisturising lip balm!
Avoid Matte Lip Products
Matte lip products typically contain more pigment and wax than others, but they have less oil. This is basically why matte lip products give off such rich colours. However, due to their lack of emollient oils, they’re pretty drying on your lips.
If you don’t need to use it, switch to creamy lipstick, lip balm, or tinted lip oil instead, especially throughout the winter season. If you must use a matte lip product, use lots and lots of organic lip balm beforehand.
Keep Hydrated, Your Lips Included
Nothing beats drinking enough glasses of H20 to keep your skin and lips hydrated. It’s not just lip products that you can directly apply to your lips that will protect and moisturise them; hydrating yourself from the inside can also help to keep your lips looking plump, smooth, and fresh.
Remember, water restores your body, and that includes your lips.
Drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning, and bring a reusable water bottle with you on all your errands. The trick is to keep your bottle with you at all times.
Always Wear SPF
Whatever product you use to protect your lips, make sure you choose one with sunscreen.
You probably know by now how delicate your lips are and, yes, they can get sunburnt too.
So slather on some lip balm with SPF before heading out.
Whether you’re taking care of your lips to give that special someone a wonderful gift or if you just want to shower yourself with self-care and self-love, the tips above will definitely help in keeping your pout feeling smooth and rejuvenated.
Make this an all-year-round thing so that you’ll always have irresistibly smoother more kissable lips!
