Relaxing after a day at work is a great form of self-care and activities away from technology can be the best way to unwind.

Even if you enjoy what you’re doing at work, it can be stressful to keep up with the demands of the day. Having a break from the computer or television can help you get away from the screen and focus on the important things in life.

We spend so much time focusing on technology we forget how productive we can be when we don’t have screen time. Activities away from the screen also tend to help with fulfilment rather than just passing time.

Activities Away From Technology

Spend time reading

If you’re not a reader, now is the time to start a new habit of reading. It can help strengthen your brain and improve your self-esteem. Having a few pages of reading each day can help you feel better and grow as a person.

It doesn’t specifically have to be an actual book, just some form of reading material which makes your brain focus on the words.

Writing in a journal

One of the most effective ways to support your mental health is by writing down your thoughts and feelings. This can help you prioritise what you’re thinking and feeling and make it easier to deal with the issues that you’re experiencing.

Having a journal can also help you feel freer after you have written everything down. Clearing your mind at the end of each day can also improve sleep. A lot of people use gratitude and practising mindfulness as a way of journaling their day.

Practise meditation

Getting a meditation practice can help you connect the parts of your body and mind. It can help you relieve stress and make you feel better about yourself.

Having some quiet time where you focus on peace. This will allow you to focus on breathing and reduce stress.

Do some form of arts and crafts

A lot of us aren’t naturally academic and find enjoyment in being creative. Arts and crafts are a huge hobby and there are many outlets you can explore to find something which you enjoy. Sometimes DIY crafts and being creative can lead to a side hustle.

It can be a great way to keep your mind focused on the present while also reducing the amount of time that you spend on other tasks.

Clean your home

Getting the house cleaned can be one of the last tasks that you want to tackle after a stressful day at work. However, it can be a great opportunity to make it a fun and relaxing time for yourself with your favourite Zoflora disinfectant.

A lot of people find cleaning therapeutic and it’s very satisfying once a task is done. Setting yourself a timer and blitzing the kitchen or vacuuming the whole house can also give you a sense of achievement.

Go for a walk

It is recommended that the average adult takes 10,000 steps a day. People who have a desk job whether that be working from home or a place of work, tend to spend a lot of the day seated. You will find doing activities away from technology and being in nature very good for your mind. No matter the weather get outside and start walking, grab your raincoat and get in those steps.

Using your leisure time to ensure you get your steps and appreciating the benefits of walking is good for your body as well.

Do some gardening

A garden can be created indoors or outdoors. By cultivating flowers or herbs indoors, you can enjoy bountiful harvests that you would not be able to get in the spring.

You’ll have the added satisfaction of growing your own food which in itself is very rewarding.

Spend some time doing self-care

Spending your leisure time doing something which makes you feel good is valuable time spent. Self-care can be in many forms depending on the person and their preferences.

Having a bath with your favourite smelling candles lit around you and just relaxing is a self-care delight of mine. Painting my nails and toenails or applying fake tan. These are all tasks which I can do myself for myself, which makes me feel good.

Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s just a way of ensuring your cup is full before you pour into other peoples.

Spending time away from screens and just generally reducing your screen time is a positive step.

Due to the addictive nature of social media and technology, it is now more important than ever that you actively seek out something that will keep you focused on the present. Having a few hours of free time can help you improve your life and keep you focused on the present.

There are a variety of non-technology activities that you can do. I hope you implement some of them into your life and day-to-day routine.
